OBAM Career App is trying to solve the problem secondary school students face in making career choices. Research shows that most secondary school students lack the appropriate information(career prospects, challenges, institutions that offer specific courses, right subject combinations, etc) required to make informed decisions regarding their career choices. OBAM Career App is specifically designed to ensure that these students have access to the needed information to make the right career choices.
According to research, in the Mowe, Ogun state, Nigeria, 5 out of 10 students pick courses without the required information as a result of lack of guidance. Most students are just after getting into school and this in turn leads to frustration after graduation or a total lack of interest in the sector one has been trained in. Research also shows that wrong career can make an individual seriously ill- the total number of cases of work-related stress and depression in 2015/2016 was 488,000 with a prevalence rate of 1,500 for every 100,000 workers.
