The Team:

Blessing Ilori

Evans Bio Boampong

Abigael Ibikunle

Michael Ogar

Problem:

OBAM Career App is trying to solve the problem secondary school students face in making career choices. Research shows that most secondary school students lack the appropriate information(career prospects, challenges, institutions that offer specific courses, right subject combinations, etc) required to make informed decisions regarding their career choices. OBAM Career App is specifically designed to ensure that these students have access to the needed information to make the right career choices.

According to research, in the Mowe, Ogun state, Nigeria, 5 out of 10 students pick courses without the required information as a result of lack of guidance. Most students are just after getting into school and this in turn leads to frustration after graduation or a total lack of interest in the sector one has been trained in. Research also shows that wrong career can make an individual seriously ill- the total number of cases of work-related stress and depression in 2015/2016 was 488,000 with a prevalence rate of 1,500 for every 100,000 workers.

Solution:

OBAM Career App is trying to solve the problem secondary school students face in making career choices. It is specifically designed to ensure that these students have access to the needed information to make the right career choices.

OBAM Career App is set to serve Schools, Parents, Students, and Teachers.

The Mobile app will help to improve the quality of the School Standard, provide handy career information to parents regarding their wards’ desired career, and help students make informed decisions about their career. It will also make teachers more effective by helping them understand the uniqueness of each child and the best way to relate with them. Apart from the mobile app, our solution seeks to design a software version that could be made available in Secondary Schools to enable Students without mobile phones easily access the package via the Computers.
