About the program

The Ignite Innovation for Climate Change (ICC) Virtual Challenge is a 2-day online hackathon and incubator funded by the British Council through the Future News Worldwide (FNW) program, and facilitated by

Inspire Africa for Global Impacts Initiative.

It prompts young people to learn and apply human centred design-thinking and digital business skills to create product innovations solving climate change problems in Africa.

A simultaneous documentary/film series sensitises youth on the impact of climate change by raising awareness of challenges faced by African communities.

ICC timeline

The ICC virtual challenge will run from Friday the 4th to Saturday  the 5th of June 2021.

A total of 50 young entrepreneurs from across Africa will embark on this program as the pilot climate change cohort, and potentially join an enticing network of climate action innovators in the lead up to The 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), taking place in Glasgow from 1 to 12 November 2021.

Participants will use digital tools to receive, complete and deliver tasks and so will need a functioning Google Account to join the challenge. Meetings will be hosted using Zoom or Google Meet, depending on user preferences and size/duration of meeting. Additional closed communication channels on other platforms (Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram) will be introduced depending on need.
